Project Description
This project will add multi-camera recording and streaming capabilities to the Weston Center Studio Theatre, home to TLU Dramatic Media. The equipment will provide for the installation of four robotic cameras, a central camera controller, a mixer for the video signals, recording media, and cabling. The system will prepare students for work in environments such as the performing arts, sporting events, concerts, and worship settings—operating the equipment and/or directing the “show.” This is consistent with the philosophy of our department, which seeks to create marketable skills that go beyond a traditional theatre curriculum.
Why is multi-camera recording important?
The COVID-19 pandemic amplified the importance of such systems, as it changed the relationship between events and audiences. As we hope for the conclusion of the current pandemic, we know that audience expectations have changed forever, with more demand for remote viewing.
This system will allow for events to serve both live and remote audiences. It also promises to be an excellent teaching tool, allowing students and instructors to review recorded footage from both performance and classroom contexts.
